Dr. Agatha Murray
Hello! I'm Agatha Murray (pronouns: she, her) and I'm a clinical/counselling psychologist, registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists since 2002. I have a Master's degree in counselling psychology from the University of Calgary and a PhD (doctorate) in counselling psychology from the University of Alberta. In addition to my private practice which I started in 2016, I have worked in a university counselling centre and various medical/psychiatric departments affiliated with the U of A Hospital.
I have extensive training and experience in helping people with a variety of mental health concerns and personal difficulties. I use evidence-based practice - for example, CBT for depression and anxiety disorders, and EMDR or prolonged exposure (PE) for post-traumatic stress disorder. Evidence-based practice provides confidence that the therapeutic approach is based on research, rather than fads or untested ideas.
Psychotherapy research has shown that a good connection or "fit" with the therapist is extremely important. To this end, I try to approach all clients with openness, integrity, respect, and compassion, and I strive for a collaborative style of therapy. I collect client feedback on a regular basis and use this feedback to help guide my practice.
I'm excited to meet with people to help them manage problems and overcome challenges. New clients are offered a free 15-minute initial phone consultation to learn more about how I work, see if we would be a good fit, and ask any questions.
